G20 summit weekend wall..

An abstract. Why not?.

The laneway narrows as it approaches my section of the wall so getting that dead on shot doesn't really work out. Someday soon I'll get fed up with these close quarters and just go out and buy a wide angle lens. That would be the smart thing to do.

Special guest Tyke-Witness AWR/NASA Los Angeles.

Burners all of them.
As I'm sure you have no doubt heard, this summer Toronto hosted a several billion $ clusterf**k known as the G20 summit. I don't care to what side your political bias leans, that mess was an abomination for Toronto and everyone in it who footed the bill.
Everybody minus myself painted this wall in the heart of the 'security zone' or whatever they called it (downtown core) that summit Saturday. I had to work or something, can't remember. I honestly thought they were nuts anyways as the entire area was swarming with riot cops all hopped up on a few too many double-doubles and just shaking down and cuffing whatever and whomever the shiny black boots happened upon. And sure enough they rolled through that alley busting sh*t up and slammed Hemps up against the opposite wall. the subversive artwork ended for the day and everyone scattered, only to return when the ORDER and chaos had packed up and moved on. I came and painted my spot the following week. NUTS! I kind of wish I had been there on the day.
Wax, Scam, Witness-Tyke, Teck, Wysper, Hemps, Sight 2010. A block and a half away police cruisers burned to the ground that afternoon. Tear gas, storefronts demolished, looting, rubber bullets, riot gear vandalism and madness. I love this town. And all things considered this wall came off hard, everybody crushed. I love it. That's why it's such a giant shame it all got ruined(to be continued).

Monster trucking

This is just a close up detail of an older canvas of mine that got damaged, not a huge loss really- this was the only part I liked. And only just a little. I've had a few pieces take a beating in transport etc. but this one got it pretty bad.

I still try to get the BA fellas up once in a while.

As you can see the simplified approach lives on, I was going for that logo-style look.
This big old beast gets around, does the rounds.

The simplified approach

Chou.

In the preceding post I expressed how unsatisfied I was with the quality of work I painted. No excuses. These two walls and a new approach to them set me right again, feeling like myself once more. Simple, yet effective. I like these.

Loves and myself work well together, always have.

Bathurst st. lanes phase 2

This thing- I'm not super crazy about, I wanted to try something different and make the best of a broken up spot. Not my favorite by a longshot, I can be very critical of my own work sometimes.

Sight, Bacon, Kano, Kwest 2010. The HSA guys ripped it as usual, I felt my spot was kind of awkward and the fact the I went off into unexplored territory style-wise wasn't helping either. In all honesty you can't expect to walk away from every production super happy allo the time. I will likely end up trying to make better use of my section of wall and end up painting over myself next year. Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?.

Bateman's bicycle company

A commisioned mural in my area. The design is not mine, the owner had his graphic designer who worked out his logo put together the desired image. I managed to replicate this image from the reference provided quite near exactly. Fun job even though not completely my vision from start to finish.

Huron st. solo

This one underwent a bit of transformation. It seemed a bit plain in stage 1, I like the way the finished product has turned out. I actually really enjoy painting by myself these days.

Painted in the midst of a serious heatwave, no shade as usual.
